The Taw River, Sticklepath

We went here after a very good walk in Dartmoor (10 miles!). The beer was nice, the fire was warm and the pool was good. Nice old traditional pub.

Beer!!

can't quite remember the prices but they had:

Carlsberg Export
Doom Bar
Tribute

and many others!

Anything else?

generally a good pub!

The Beer Engine

Out along the River Creedy at a place called Newton St Cyres. Was quite a good pub.

The Important Bit

They brew their own ale on site and I believe they had Rail Ale, Piston Bitter and Heavy Sleeper. I can't remember the prices but you can get 6 bottles of Piston Bitter for £8.50!

Anything else?

Erm, no.

Black Horse

On Longbrook Street, this pub is almost in the town centre but not quite. So it can get quite busy at the weekend and it was standing room only when we went! Nice pub though and when it's quieter then theres loads of places to sit.

Beer!

Serve IPA for £2.20 a pint (I think)
Also have Bass for £1.55 a pint (which from past experience is alright to drink)

Other than that...

Nothing much really. Pretty standard pub.

The Thirsty Camel

Opposite the old firehouse, this pub is also a bit of a local place, i.e i didnt think they were too keen on students! It's fairly large, but was rather empty when we were there! However, the staff seemed friendly enough.

Drinks

Carlsberg £2/pint
Guinness £2.50/pint
Southern Comfort and Lemonade £1.90

Anything Else?

There's a juke box (5 songs for £1) which has some rather good music on it and also a pool table (50p/game).

Once again, here is a photograph

The Old Firehouse

I like this pub! It has a very friendly feel to it and it almost completely lit by candlelight. Its popular with students and the staff are very friendly.

I'm not sure about the ale selection, but im sure that will be edited later!

Anything Else?

They dont do mead.

The Brass Monkey, Teignmouth

Not sure if I'm meant to write about this, but if not then this will disappear and a new review will appear in its place!

Nice pub, although not sure whether or not the locals appreciated us turning up! The barman ID'd Lucy (ha ha ha!) and I'm not sure what the beer was like as I was drinking Coke.

Anything worth mentioning?

Not really.

Photograph is here!

The Artful Dodger

Having been to Mill on the Exe and the Great Western, we looked at our watches and they said 10.25pm. Which led us to think "lets have one pint in the Artful Dodger and then go home". In all fairness that is what we did, but it was only 10.35pm that we left!

Beer

Doom Bar - £2.00 (which is reason number one not to go here, it's £1.57 in the Jolly Porter)
Topsham Ferryman (I would quite like to try this as it is made in Topsham, but I'm not going back there to find out!)

Ote else?

Well, apart from it being the quickest pint I've ever drunk, and never quite sure that you're safe from the local inbreds, and looking out of place, and having to avoid the dodgy old men dancing it was a pretty bad pub. Very loud music (could only just hear each other, and we were sat a foot apart from each other!). Only reason you could ever possibly want to go there is that they have free pool after 5.30pm (although personally, I'd rather pay £1 a game in the Jolly Porter next door!)

The Mill on the Exe

Good food, big portions, fairly pricey! But nice atmosphere, the interior is warm and spacious and there are nice views of the Exe.

we didn't try beer here but had some nice wine! (but it was £10/bottle)

Anything Else?

death by chocolate is a seriously nice dessert!

Coming soon....

The Lemmy

Not really a pub, but we went there yesterday (12th January). Its basically a very big room with a very big bar and is a club at the weekend, its pretty poo except on wednesdays, when there is open mic (actually, that can be a tuesday sometimes - just to confuse you!!)

Prices:

Same as the Ram!!

Anything Else?:

Not really, no.

The Ram

No single date as we've been there lots of times! Most recent was Sunday 9th January.

This is the bar owned and run by Exeter University Guild of Students. Its a reasonable enough place and is always busy (though normally you can get a seat if you try hard enough). Its conveniently placed near to the centre of campus within easy reach of the sports hall, lecture theatres and accomodation. Inside it has a rustic but plastic feel to it with corrugated metal being used as roofing.

Pints
Otter Bitter (3.6%) - £1.60
Youngs Bitter (3.7%) - £1.70
Waggledance (5%) - £1.90
Grolsch - £1.80
Stella Artois - £2.10
UPDATE
Waggledance replaced by Winter Warmer (13/01/2005) - £1.90
UPDATE 2
Waggledance is now back on!
UPDATE 3
Not it isn't!

Ote else?
Table football - 50p per game
Juke box - £1.00 for 3 tracks (including videos)

The Jolly Porter

10th January 2005

This pub has an old feel to it. There are three distinct sections with the bar in the middle. We prefer the side to the right which houses a pool table, two dart boards and the juke box. Hopefully Spam Man with be back behind the bar soon!

Pints
Doom Bar (4%) - £1.57
Special Ale (5%) - £1.67
Guest Ale - Unknown
Kronenbourg - £1.90

Anything else?
